Scope of Pharmaceutical Jobs
The pharmaceutical industry in India is growing at a fast pace. This is partly due to the liberalization, globalization and privatization of the Indian economy and partly due to an increase in aging population and new developments in diagnosis and treatment (leading to increased use of medication). The availability of a large talent pool in India at a comparatively lesser cost is making India a favorite destination for pharmaceutical companies.
There are two main aspects of drugs, namely, drug discovery and drug development. Drug discovery is a process of discovering or designing new drugs. Drug development process takes place after a thing has been identified as a potential drug. Some of the other stages associated with drugs include action, safety, formulation, use, quality control, packaging, storage and marketing.
In India, there are several pharmaceutical jobs for freshers in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, Gurgaon, Delhi and Pune.
Types of Pharmaceutical Jobs
There are several pharmaceutical jobs for freshers in India. A fresher can work as a drug therapist, medical representative/medical sales representative, pharmacist, health inspector, hospital drug coordinator, chemical/drug technician, clinical researcher or drug inspector.
Freshers can also find suitable openings in bio-tech companies or in pathological laboratories for various research and development works. They can also be involved in preparing prescriptions for patients. Several other technical and non-technical jobs are also available in pharmaceutical companies for running their daily operations.
Eligibility for Pharmaceutical Jobs
If you want to join the pharmaceutical industry in India, you need to complete high school with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. After completing your high school, you may opt for a two year diploma course in Pharmacy (D. Pharma) or a four-year degree course in Pharmacy (B. Pharma).
Admission to D. Pharma or B. Pharma is usually based on merit, i.e., the marks obtained by an individual in entrance examinations conducted by the states and the universities. After completing your B. Pharma, you can pursue M. Pharma for specialization and then may register yourself for Ph.D.

There are several pharmaceutical jobs for freshers in India. Several companies, irrespective of their size, offer technical as well as non-technical jobs to the entry-level freshers in India. Though all the companies may not have suitable openings for freshers during the whole year, the companies which usually recruit freshers include Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Cadila Pharmaceutical Limited, Ranbaxy India, Aventis Pharma Limited, Matrix Laboratories, Natural Remedies Pvt. Ltd., La Soft Technologies, Biocon Limited, Norma DND Products Pvt Ltd, Columbia Asia Hospitals Pvt. Ltd. and Super Religare Laboratories Ltd.
Salary Package Expected
Freshers in the pharmaceutical industry can expect something between Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 10,000 a month. However, the compensation package may vary depending upon factors like an individual's academic attainments, the company he or she is working for and the location of workplace.
